Thought: To me, there is no struggle to understand how God chose some "ahead of time" to be holy. God is all-powerful. He can do this, and He may do it as He wishes!
Question: Why did God choose some to be "holy and blameless in His sight."?
Scripture: Ephesians 1:4 (NIV): "For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight."
Now we come to some of the concrete reasons we owe God praise. First of all we owe Him praise because He chose to help us. God made a decision. He made a choice to hang in there with us. He knew He would have to go to great lengths, He knew He Himself would have to deal with evil for our sakes. He chose, He stubbornly selected, to do whatever it took to unite us into Him. He accomplished this through Christ. He both rejected evil and accepted us through Christ's atoning death on Calvary. He chose to have certain ones of us be holy, in God intimately, forever safe before His eyes. Thus God could look upon us forever as beloved ones, blameless and acceptable to His gaze. This choice of God's was made before He ever started creating anything. Think of that! It was no correcting afterthought. It was no hustle to plan "B" because plan "A" failed, no! God chose this "way" of using Christ to conquer sin so that we could be with Him, long before "we" were even created. He chose us to be holy before we even existed. That tells me He wanted, more than anything, to have us share in His quality of Holiness; to have His Holiness magnified, enlarged, spread out from Himself to other beings, as an ultimately good thing, a final, perfect goal. God laid this determination down solidly, like a foundation, underneath the foundations of creation itself. His Holiness is the driving force behind all of life--forever and ever. And Holiness, like all of God's qualities, will not be content to remain "one size". It must grow because it is alive. God is alive and must "grow." God will expand Himself into us, bringing His Divine nature to us, whatever it may cost Him. The cost is secondary to the need God has, apparently, to spread His nature abroad. His nature is Love--Love, by nature, grows!
Prayer: Oh, Father, thank You for Your great loving nature that chose us to become holy, even as You are holy! There is no better gift imagineable than to be made to be like You! Amen.
