Isaiah - Day 146

versebyverse | November 12, 2008 18:24

Scripture:  Isaiah 8:2 (NIV):  "And I will call in Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberekiah as reliable witnesses for me."

Thought:  To me, God goes the "extra mile" to open our eyes to truth.

Question:  Am I teachable and reachable?

This matter of record to be written down by Isaiah (yesterday's verse) is important enough that God summons two "reliable witnesses" to insure its accuracy.  This calling in of "Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberekiah" underscores this importance.

It should stimulate a scene of suspense, but will it?  Is Judah reachable or teachable at this point?

As we recall yesterday's verse, the name Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz has been written on a large scroll.  The name means "quick to the plunder, swift to the spoil", and refers to Judah's enemy.

Will the Jews listen?  Will the calling of two witnesses as the scroll is written make an impact?  God goes to great lengths to inspire repentance, doesn't He?

Prayer:  Oh Father, forgive my callousness when I fail to see Your hand in my life.  Help me to realize that You are engineering all things for my good, even the arrival of strong disaster.  Amen.
